In the Hagada we read from the perek in Yechezkel where it says Bdamayich Chayi, Bdamayich Chayi. By your blood you shall live by your blood you shall live. He speaks of the blood of the Korban Pesach and the blood of Mila. This is an allegory of a baby girl thrown away by her mother, unclothed and in her own blood. He comes and rescues her and pronounces by your blood you shall live.
The blood of the Korban Pesach , sacrificing a sheep, represented the sacrifice of god as sheep and the end of worship of passivity. We were satisfied with our enslavement, assisting in our totalitarian enslavement, allegedly for the good of the motherland. The result ofsacrificing this idol, is the letting go of evil. This sacrifice is idealogically termed Sur Mera(to turn away from evil). The blood of the Mila on the other hand, is the aspect of becoming Jewish. A term called Asei Tov(to do good) which means Leaving the smallness or childishness behind and raising oneself to big, or” gadol” .
If you want to purify yourself, you have to be willing to leave the smallness within behind. One cannot purify in the Mikva, while holding a dead rat(called sheretz). Rav Eisemann writes that in the Mechilta, there is an opinion which states when anyone who becomes a ger, a convert, should bring a Korban pesach. Representing leaving the old, small thoughts behind. This is the process of Teshuva,, The process of teshuva is the process of all growth not just the eradication of sin. Growth can only start when there is the admission of a problem(sur mera). Only then can a person have regrets and accept a strategy to change. Without the admission that there is a problem, there can be no growth. Korban pesach is the admission of a problem, Then Dam Mila, takes us forward. The first action of growth then is to throw away the dead rat! Any self improvement plan or strategy that doesn’t include this admission(sur mera), will not succeed. It won’t work logically it can’t!
Validation used heavily in modern therapy, prevents growth, in that it states your feeling is right, even if your actions are wrong. If there is no recognition or admission of a wrong, there can be no going forward. You need to come face to face with the possibility and responsibility that you made a mistake. Validation as a system does not allow for this.
Validation leads to living in a world of lies, healing requires tremendous compassion, being in there with the pain and supporting you as you come out of the darkness and choose to turn on the light
